Validation failed: Database not connected

Hi all, got a puzzling one here..
running Debian Stretch with Mariadb 10
Mariadb is listing on 3306
tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:3306 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 598/mysqld

install runs normally but..

Any suggestions?

1) Test the connection with MariaDB from the command line
https://mariadb.com/kb/en/library/mysql ... ne-client/

2) Try to connect using the IP instead of localhost
3) Check password and connection port 3306

command line works fine
