User notifications

Hi All,
Am really new in this. Am testing this service and i just installed it. I followed the instructions of installing the software on the server. I have a Windows 2008 R2 server and it installed successfully. I,ve gone through the admin configurations. However am just wondering how to associate real users to the application in my server. Am logged in as admin and I added users and associated them with groups under security and added their details. however, no notification message have been sent to the users. I know this sounds basic, but i just need pointers on what i should do to make that happen. would someone kindly advise?
