Task Web Service

Although the documentation doesn't say this, it seems the Task web service is not available in the CE version. Is that correct? Is there another to force a document index? Is there anyway through one of the APIs to choose "Immediate indexing" like through the UI? TIA

Yes, that is correct,
the Task web-service is not available in LogicalDOC CE,
though I think that you can try the method reindex of Document end-point
