Problems after installing LogicalDoc

First let me apologize if this problem has been reported previously.
I've installed logicaldoc-installer-8.5 (Community Edition) on MacOS 10.15.6 with no apparent problems. After the install I attempt to login using http://localhost:8080, but the response from tomcat is a 404 which I can see in the localhost_access_log.2020. Looking in catalina.out I see a whole set of java stack traces beginning with:
Cannot create JDBC driver of class 'com.mysql.cj.jdbc.Driver' for connect URL ''
java.sql.SQLException: No suitable driver
I know that the Driver class is contained in tomcat/webapps/ROOT/WEB-INF/lib/mysql-connector-java-8.0.18.jar. Oh and I'm using mysql 8.0.18
Anyone have any ideas about whats going on?
